Getting started

My first blog post...here goes.
So, Kurt and I met in college and after a few years, finally started dating.  Both of us went into dating with the idea that we would be married (c'mon, isn't that the actual point of dating).  We talked about a lot of things even before premarital counseling, one of which was that I would like to stay home with our kids if that would be at all possible.  I mean, I majored in early childhood/elementary education in college and spent three years working as a lead teacher at a daycare.  I then spent four years teaching fourth grade and working at the daycare during my summers 'off'.  For me, I spent 7 years loving on other kids and could not wait to love on my own.
Well, after being married for five years, we welcomed our son into our family in 2009 and, because of a very supportive husband, I am able to stay home with him.  It's great, most of the time.  I love watching our Little grow and learn, explore and wonder.  I hate how terrible I am at keeping house.
Enter...The Horrendous Housewife (my first title pick, The Horrible Housewife, was  taken :/).  I am a terrible housekeeper.  There is just so much to the job and I constantly feel as though I am dropping the ball.  As the months pass, I find that there is one key issue here and that is how overwhelmed I feel when it comes to approaching certain tasks ie. the dishes.  Yes the dishes seem innocent enough but when there's a counter full of big nasty ones I have a rough time figuring out where to start.  Usually by the second day they are there I'm ready to pounce on the load.  I start by emptying the dishwasher.  Yes, I said emptying.  I find that I am much more productive when I can just keep washing and I don't have to stop and dry everything on the strainer.  So I open the dishwasher and keep putting clean dishes into it.  I've even used the oven racks before for things like my baking stones. Ha!
I am still learning (yes even after being married for seven years and being a mom for two) but this blog is for me to vent and to reach out for others' ideas.
Right now the thing I find the most overwhelming is meal planning (I say this but I do have a counter full of dishes that I need to tackle Ha! and I would much rather wash the dog).  We live just a mile or two from a local grocery store.  I know that when I go there I am spending more than I need to if I would just meal plan and head to Wal-Mart or Target but I just don't even know where to start.  You see, I am not very adventurous when it comes to meals. So if you have any good ones that are fairly inexpensive for me to try out, PLEASE share your recipe...note, I HATE stove top stuffing though :)  Thanks for your thoughts!
